Welcome to Capitol Grounds Cafe, a delightful culinary sanctuary located in the heart of Washington, DC. Nestled at 1010 17th St NW, this cozy cafe is not just about coffee and snacks; it’s a vibrant homage to Korean cuisine that beckons both locals and visitors alike.

As soon as you step inside, you are enveloped by a warm atmosphere, infused with the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. This cafe is a true cultural gem, where friendly staff and the skilled hands of an elderly Korean lady ensure that each dish is crafted with care and love, just like a cherished family recipe. The inviting ambiance is complemented by a no-touch ordering system, adding a modern twist to a traditional experience.

Dive into the heart of Korean flavors with standout options like the Galbi Bibimbap. This signature dish is a vibrant rice bowl adorned with an array of seasoned sautéed vegetables—crisp carrots, refreshing cucumbers, earthy beets, and tender beansprouts—all crowned with a perfectly fried sunny-side-up egg. Finished with a sprinkle of sesame and a generous dollop of rich, sweet, and tangy bibimbap sauce, every bite is a burst of flavor. For those seeking something hearty, the Budae Jjigae (Army Soup) offers a savory experience, bubbling with kimchi, pork, tofu, and a deliciously melty slice of cheese. Finished with your choice of noodles or rice cakes, it’s a dish that warms both the body and soul, especially on a chilly day.

Capitol Grounds Cafe doesn’t just stop there. Their menu also features refreshing refreshments like Korean Coffee and Banana Milk, which are perfect accompaniments to your meal. Whether you’re there to explore, unwind, or simply enjoy a well-deserved break, the cafe’s selection caters to all tastes.

Happened to see it as we were walking by. They serve delicious Korean food here. The veggies in the bibimbop was fresh and the spicy pork was well seasoned. The eating area could use a little sprucing up but it’s fun to see all the Korean and non Korean snacks they sell. It’s a no touch ordering system which is kind of cool. They have street toast and dukboki too. I would recommend a try!

Discovered this gem on my first day of work in the area and was thrilled to discover they had Korean selections in addition to the traditional deli menu. The owner was extremely welcoming and patient. My colleague had never had Korean food before and he graciously went through the menu explaining what everything was. The cafe was neat, clean, and the food was hot and fresh! My colleague and I both got the Bibimbap. I got beef and she got spicy pork. Both were absolutely delicious. The house made hot sauce was ON POINT. Excited to come back and try more items here!!
